──────────────────── Navigating around FAST ACCESS ───────────────────
After you've added programs with the Add command, use the cursor keys,
including <Home> and <End>, to move the highlight around FAST ACCESS.
Pressing <Enter> will run the highlighted program.
To access the commands at the bottom of the screen, just press the
first letter of that command.
At any time FAST ACCESS asks you a question, you can always use the
<Esc> key to exit/backout of that item.
─────────────────────────── Using a Mouse ────────────────────────────
To execute any command just click the left button on the command word.
To highlight a program name just click the left button once on the
program name.
To execute a program double-click the left button on the program name.
The double-click must be fairly rapid (2 clicks within 0.5 second).
To change an option in the Setup Configuration window, simply click
the left button on any highlighted item.
To escape out of a command, click the right mouse button (it's the
same as pressing the <Esc> key).
Any item that is highlighted in a different color, such as () or
(─┘) symbols, etc., can usually be clicked on with the left mouse
button.
To see the version number of FAST ACCESS click the (≡) symbol on the
left side of the command line (in both the main program window and the
Setup Configuration window).
────────────────────────────── Commands ──────────────────────────────
Add - Add a program to FAST ACCESS and a batch file to disk. When
you need to Add a program to FAST ACCESS, this is the command
you will use. FAST ACCESS will guide you through the steps,
and help is available at each question by pressing the <F1>
function key. The last question will ask you if you want to
password protect the program. It gives you the option of
using the same password that locks you out of FAST ACCESS, or
a unique password of it's own. For this function to be
active, the Password option in the Setup Configuration must
be enabled.
Delete - Delete the highlighted program from FAST ACCESS and erase the
program's batch file from disk. FAST ACCESS will ask you to
verify these steps, since it can erase the batch file for the
program.
Move - Move the highlighted program to a new location on screen.
This command will only work if the Sorting method option in
the Setup Configuration is set to Custom.
NOTE: If the Global cursor access option in Setup is ON, you
cannot use the mouse to move programs.
View - View highlighted program's information (including if the
program has been password protected) and show the program's
batch file on the screen. You can also view your system
files (AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS and FA.LOG) by pressing the
<F2> function key.
Edit - Edit the highlighted program's batch file using the file
editor specified in Setup. If no editor is specified, then
FAST ACCESS will use it's own file editor, FAEDITOR.EXE.
You can Edit the batch file indicated, or edit the batch
filename to any valid ASCII text file that you wish to work
on. If you want to edit your system files (AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CONFIG.SYS), press the <F2> function key and select the
system file to edit.
NOTE: See Editor explanation in Setup help for more
information.
Revise - Revise the highlighted program's name or change the batch
file name. If you selected Program revision, you will be
asked if you want to password protect the program. It gives
you the option of using the same password that locks you out
of FAST ACCESS, or a unique password of it's own. For this
function to be active, the Password option in Setup must be
enabled.
FileMan- Will run the file manager you specified in Setup. If no file
manager is specified, nothing will happen when you use this
command. If you do not have a file manager, GET ONE !!
XTree's XTreeGold is the fastest and most powerful file
manager currently on the market.
The top four file manager's are:
Program name Filename
--------------------------- --------------
XTree's XTreeGold (XTGOLD.COM)
Central Point's PCTools (PCSHELL.EXE)
Microsoft's DOS 5.x shell (DOSSHELL.COM)
Symantec's Norton Commander (NC.COM)
NOTE: See Manager explanation in Setup help for more
information.
Info - Reports your computer system information (CPU, coprocessor,
video adapter/monitor, ports, drive letter range, memory and
disk stats).
FAST ACCESS will execute DOS's CHKDSK.COM or CHKDSK.EXE for
the disk stats. This program must be accessable through the
[path=] statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. If CHKDSK can't
be found, you will still get some basic information about the
drive you selected.
If your using an Extended Memory Manager (XMM), like
Microsoft's HIMEM.SYS, or an Expanded Memory Manager, like
Quarterdeck's QEMM386.SYS, Info will report the Extended
Memory Specification (XMS) version, XMM version, and if the
High Memory Area (HMA) exists.
Setup - Setup window for FAST ACCESS configuration options.
Help - This window.
OS - Exits to the DOS prompt without leaving FAST ACCESS. If you
need to access DOS for something, you can use this command.
It saves you from having to Quit FAST ACCESS to get to DOS.
Quit - Quits FAST ACCESS. FAST ACCESS will check and see that
nothing has changed before letting you Quit the program.
NOTE: You MUST ALLWAYS quit out of FAST ACCESS before turning
your computer off. If you do not do this, certain
options, like password protection, may not be active
when you start FAST ACCESS up again.
────────────────── Function Keys used by FAST ACCESS ─────────────────
F1 - HELP - Same as pressing <H> on the command line.
F2 - HISTORY WINDOW - Pops up the History window which will dis-
play the last 9 programs that were executed. Provides a
quick way to execute your most recently used programs (that
way you don't have to cursor all over the screen to execute
them if you have a lot of programs listed). You can call up
the History window with the mouse by clicking the left mouse
button anywhere on rows 5 or 6 (the top two rows the mouse is
able to move to), or clicking the right mouse button anywhere
on the screen. With the History window displayed, clicking
the right mouse button will clear the window.
F3 - ENABLE PASSWORD - A short-cut key to enable the Password
option. It saves a few key strokes.
F4 - DISABLE PASSWORD - A short-cut key to quickly disable the
Password option. It saves a few key strokes.
F5 - REDRAW MAIN SCREEN - If for some reason you get some garbage
on your FAST ACCESS screen, whether it's from a TSR program
or whatever, the <F5> key will redraw the main FAST ACCESS
screen.
F6 - VERSION NUMBER - Pops up the FAST ACCESS version, tech
support number and registration information window.
F7 - BLANK SCREEN - Will manually blank the screen for you. If you
don't want to wait for the blank screen time to blank the
screen for you, you can press <F7> to do it.
NOTE: If you have specified a hard disk parking program in
the Setup window, the hard disk will be parked when
using this function key.
F8 - SAVE CHANGES - Saves any changes that were made to FAST
ACCESS. If no changes were made and you press <F8>, nothing
will happen. FAST ACCESS knows when you've changed something
and will remind you of it if you forget. Whenever FAST
ACCESS updates it's FA.INI and FA.APP files, you will see
"UPDATING" at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds.
