  1. ──────────────────── Navigating around FAST ACCESS ───────────────────
  2.  
  3. After you've added programs with the Add command, use the cursor keys,
  4. including <Home> and <End>, to move the highlight around FAST ACCESS.
  5.  
  6. Pressing <Enter> will run the highlighted program.
  7.  
  8. To access the commands at the bottom of the screen, just press the
  9. first letter of that command.
  10.  
  11. At any time FAST ACCESS asks you a question, you can always use the
  12. <Esc> key to exit/backout of that item.
  13.  
  14. ─────────────────────────── Using a Mouse ────────────────────────────
  15.  
  16. To execute any command just click the left button on the command word.
  17.  
  18. To highlight a program name just click the left button once on the
  19. program name.
  20.  
  21. To execute a program double-click the left button on the program name.
  22. The double-click must be fairly rapid (2 clicks within 0.5 second).
  23.  
  24. To change an option in the Setup Configuration window, simply click
  25. the left button on any highlighted item.
  26.  
  27. To escape out of a command, click the right mouse button (it's the
  28. same as pressing the <Esc> key).
  29.  
  30. Any item that is highlighted in a different color, such as () or
  31. (─┘) symbols, etc., can usually be clicked on with the left mouse
  32. button.
  33.  
  34. To see the version number of FAST ACCESS click the (≡) symbol on the
  35. left side of the command line (in both the main program window and the
  36. Setup Configuration window).
  37.  
  38. ────────────────────────────── Commands ──────────────────────────────
  39.  
  40.    Add - Add a program to FAST ACCESS and a batch file to disk.  When
  41.          you need to Add a program to FAST ACCESS, this is the command
  42.          you will use.  FAST ACCESS will guide you through the steps,
  43.          and help is available at each question by pressing the <F1>
  44.          function key.  The last question will ask you if you want to
  45.          password protect the program.  It gives you the option of
  46.          using the same password that locks you out of FAST ACCESS, or
  47.          a unique password of it's own.  For this function to be
  48.          active, the Password option in the Setup Configuration must
  49.          be enabled.
  50.          
  51. Delete - Delete the highlighted program from FAST ACCESS and erase the
  52.          program's batch file from disk.  FAST ACCESS will ask you to
  53.          verify these steps, since it can erase the batch file for the
  54.          program.
  55.  
  56.   Move - Move the highlighted program to a new location on screen.
  57.          This command will only work if the Sorting method option in
  58.          the Setup Configuration is set to Custom.
  59.  
  60.          NOTE: If the Global cursor access option in Setup is ON, you
  61.                cannot use the mouse to move programs.
  62.  
  63.   View - View highlighted program's information (including if the
  64.          program has been password protected) and show the program's
  65.          batch file on the screen.  You can also view your system
  66.          files (AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS and FA.LOG) by pressing the
  67.          <F2> function key.
  68.  
  69.   Edit - Edit the highlighted program's batch file using the file
  70.          editor specified in Setup.  If no editor is specified, then
  71.          FAST ACCESS will use it's own file editor, FAEDITOR.EXE.
  72.          You can Edit the batch file indicated, or edit the batch
  73.          filename to any valid ASCII text file that you wish to work
  74.          on.  If you want to edit your system files (AUTOEXEC.BAT and
  75.          CONFIG.SYS), press the <F2> function key and select the
  76.          system file to edit.
  77.          
  78.          NOTE: See Editor explanation in Setup help for more
  79.                information.

  81. Revise - Revise the highlighted program's name or change the batch
  82.          file name.  If you selected Program revision, you will be
  83.          asked if you want to password protect the program.  It gives
  84.          you the option of using the same password that locks you out
  85.          of FAST ACCESS, or a unique password of it's own.  For this
  86.          function to be active, the Password option in Setup must be
  87.          enabled.

  89. FileMan- Will run the file manager you specified in Setup.  If no file
  90.          manager is specified, nothing will happen when you use this
  91.          command.  If you do not have a file manager, GET ONE !!
  92.          XTree's XTreeGold is the fastest and most powerful file
  93.          manager currently on the market.

  107.   Info - Reports your computer system information (CPU, coprocessor,
  108.          video adapter/monitor, ports, drive letter range, memory and
  109.          disk stats).
  110.  
  111.          FAST ACCESS will execute DOS's CHKDSK.COM or CHKDSK.EXE for
  112.          the disk stats.  This program must be accessable through the
  113.          [path=] statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  If CHKDSK can't
  114.          be found, you will still get some basic information about the
  115.          drive you selected.
  116.  
  117.          If your using an Extended Memory Manager (XMM), like
  118.          Microsoft's HIMEM.SYS, or an Expanded Memory Manager, like
  119.          Quarterdeck's QEMM386.SYS, Info will report the Extended
  120.          Memory Specification (XMS) version, XMM version, and if the
  121.          High Memory Area (HMA) exists.

  123.  Setup - Setup window for FAST ACCESS configuration options.

  125.   Help - This window.
  126.  
  127.     OS - Exits to the DOS prompt without leaving FAST ACCESS.  If you
  128.          need to access DOS for something, you can use this command.
  129.          It saves you from having to Quit FAST ACCESS to get to DOS.
  130.  
  131.   Quit - Quits FAST ACCESS.  FAST ACCESS will check and see that
  132.          nothing has changed before letting you Quit the program.
  133.  
  134.          NOTE: You MUST ALLWAYS quit out of FAST ACCESS before turning
  135.                your computer off.  If you do not do this, certain
  136.                options, like password protection, may not be active
  137.                when you start FAST ACCESS up again.

  139. ────────────────── Function Keys used by FAST ACCESS ─────────────────
  140.  
  141.     F1 - HELP - Same as pressing <H> on the command line.
  142.  
  143.     F2 - HISTORY WINDOW - Pops up the History window which will dis-
  144.          play the last 9 programs that were executed.  Provides a
  145.          quick way to execute your most recently used programs (that
  146.          way you don't have to cursor all over the screen to execute
  147.          them if you have a lot of programs listed).  You can call up
  148.          the History window with the mouse by clicking the left mouse
  149.          button anywhere on rows 5 or 6 (the top two rows the mouse is
  150.          able to move to), or clicking the right mouse button anywhere
  151.          on the screen.  With the History window displayed, clicking
  152.          the right mouse button will clear the window.
  153.  
  154.     F3 - ENABLE PASSWORD - A short-cut key to enable the Password
  155.          option.  It saves a few key strokes.
  156.  
  157.     F4 - DISABLE PASSWORD - A short-cut key to quickly disable the
  158.          Password option.  It saves a few key strokes.
  159.  
  160.     F5 - REDRAW MAIN SCREEN - If for some reason you get some garbage
  161.          on your FAST ACCESS screen, whether it's from a TSR program
  162.          or whatever, the <F5> key will redraw the main FAST ACCESS
  163.          screen.

  165.     F6 - VERSION NUMBER - Pops up the FAST ACCESS version, tech
  166.          support number and registration information window.
  167.  
  168.     F7 - BLANK SCREEN - Will manually blank the screen for you. If you
  169.          don't want to wait for the blank screen time to blank the
  170.          screen for you, you can press <F7> to do it.
  171.  
  172.          NOTE: If you have specified a hard disk parking program in
  173.                the Setup window, the hard disk will be parked when
  174.                using this function key.
  175.          
  176.     F8 - SAVE CHANGES - Saves any changes that were made to FAST
  177.          ACCESS.  If no changes were made and you press <F8>, nothing
  178.          will happen. FAST ACCESS knows when you've changed something
  179.          and will remind you of it if you forget.  Whenever FAST
  180.          ACCESS updates it's FA.INI and FA.APP files, you will see
  181.          "UPDATING" at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds.
